Guest Countries of Honor

Malaysia

Malaysia is the Guest Country of Honor at the 5th Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) held in Chongqing this year, jointly organized by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia and MAYCHAM CHINA. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Malaysia and China, and next year will witness the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, making Malaysia's participation as the Guest Country of Honor at WCIFIT particularly significant.

The Malaysian government attaches great importance to this year's WCIFIT. H.E. Mr. Raja Dato' Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Ambassador of Malaysia to China, will personally lead a delegation to Chongqing to attend the event and participate in the opening ceremony of the Guest Country of Honor Pavilion. Meanwhile, the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) will actively assist 34 exhibitors in promoting Malaysian-made products, aiming to open up new markets in Chongqing for more high-quality goods.

The COVID-19 pandemic had hindered trade exchanges between Malaysia and Chongqing, limiting interactions to online platforms and preventing the exploration of new markets. As pandemic prevention measures are gradually relaxed worldwide, Malaysia's 34 exhibitors are eagerly looking forward to showcasing their products and services at the 5th WCIFIT, spanning industries such as manufacturing, education, bird's nest, health foods, coffee, durian, food and beverages, transportation, agriculture, and palm oil.

China is Malaysia's largest trading partner and the second-largest trading partner within ASEAN. According to statistics from Chongqing Customs, from January to November 2022, the total import and export volume between Malaysia and Chongqing reached RMB21.44 billion, accounting for 19.1% of ASEAN's total trade with Chongqing.

It is hoped that this WCIFIT will further deepen the economic and trade relations between Malaysia and China, injecting new momentum into the prosperity and innovation of both regions.
