Gansu Province
Located in northwestern China and situated along the upper reaches of the Yellow River, Gansu resembles a jade Ruyi scepter inlaid between the Loess Plateau, the Inner Mongolia Plateau, and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Stretching more than 1,600 kilometers from east to west, it covers a total area of 425,900 square kilometers. With majestic landscapes of mountains, plateaus, plains, valleys, deserts, and the Gobi intertwined, Gansu presents a grand and magnificent natural panorama.
Gansu boasts a long and splendid history and culture. As one of the important cradles of the Chinese nation and Chinese civilization, it is home to Yellow River culture, agrarian culture, Silk Road culture, ancestral culture, medical culture, folk culture, and revolutionary culture, and is known as "the birthplace of Chinese civilization, a museum of natural wonders, a showcase of ethnic customs, and a destination for quality tourism". The studies of Dunhuang, bamboo and wooden slips, and painted pottery - all originating here - are world-renowned disciplines. Dunhuang murals, the Great Jiayu Pass, Wei and Jin brick paintings, Wuwei "Tianma", Western Xia steles, and the Maijishan Grottoes are all national treasures. With its diverse culture and stunning scenery, Gansu was listed by the New York Times as one of the "52 Places to Go" worldwide.
Rich in natural resources, Gansu is endowed with unique advantages. It is a major province for petroleum, coal, and non-ferrous metals, known as the "Hometown of Non-ferrous Metals". Gansu not only has a wide variety of proven mineral resources with abundant reserves but also hosts several large and super-large deposits of global importance. Blessed with exceptional wind and solar energy resources, and with favorable development conditions, it ranks third nationwide in installed wind power capacity and first in photovoltaic capacity. With ample sunshine, large temperature differences between day and night, low humidity, and minimal crop pests, Gansu is China's largest seed production base, the third-largest potato-producing region, and one of the five major pastoral areas, as well as one of the best ecological zones for growing wine grapes. The province has more than 1,500 species of medicinal plants, animals, and minerals, among which 276 kinds of traditional Chinese medicinal materials are listed as national key varieties. Its planting area and output of medicinal herbs rank first in the country.
With unique geographical advantages and convenient transportation, Gansu sits at the heart of the Eurasian Land Bridge and serves as a vital logistics corridor linking the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road". The development of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor has further strengthened Gansu's connectivity with Southwest China and ASEAN, enhancing both domestic and international openness. The provincial capital, Lanzhou, is one of China's nine national comprehensive logistics hubs, 21 logistics nodes, and 18 railway container centers. It is among the first 23 national logistics hubs designated by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport of PRC. In recent years, Gansu has accelerated the construction and operation of projects including airports, land ports, overseas bonded warehouses, designated ports, large-scale markets, and cold chain logistics, reinforcing its hub position.
Gansu has a strong industrial foundation with clear priorities. Known as the "cradle of China's petrochemical industry", it is home to large enterprises such as Lanzhou Petrochemical, Jinchuan Nonferrous Metals, Baiyin Nonferrous, Jiuquan Iron & Steel, and Changqing Oilfield, forming a relatively complete industrial system covering petrochemicals, non-ferrous metallurgy, coal power, machinery manufacturing, electronics, textiles, and food processing. Industrial cities such as "Nickel Capital Jinchang", "Copper City Baiyin", "Steel City Jiayu Pass", and "Oil City Yumen" have risen to prominence. Its cool climate and abundant energy resources also support the development of big data industries. Gansu has been designated as a key region in China's national data center strategy and has established supercomputing centers and regional intelligent computing centers in Lanzhou New Area, Jinchang, Jiuquan, and Qingyang, undertaking projects under the "Eastern Data, Western Computing" initiative.
With enormous development potential and unlimited business opportunities, Gansu is building six RMB-100-billion industrial clusters in specialty agriculture, digital intelligence, biomedicine, new energy and materials, cultural tourism and wellness, and highway derivative economy. Relying on major platforms such as Lanzhou New Area, the Lanzhou-Baiyin National Innovation Demonstration Zone, and provincial-level development zones, it is cultivating industrial parks valued at over RMB10 billion. New regional development frameworks have taken shape, including the Dunhuang Cultural Tourism Economic Circle, the Yellow River Ecological Economic Belt, the Hexi Corridor Economic Belt, and the Southeastern Gansu Growth Belt. The construction of a digital economy hub under the "Belt and Road" initiative is steadily advancing, with Gansu gradually becoming a regional center for information exchange and big data services for Central Asia and Central and Eastern Europe. National-level expos such as the China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair, the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair, and the China (Gansu) Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Expo have further enhanced its influence, providing greater opportunities for global investors.
With a sound business environment and preferential policies, Gansu has introduced a new model of factor supply for projects, giving priority to land and ensuring sufficient water, electricity, gas, and heat supply for major projects. The province has strengthened financial support and tax incentives, offering subsidies and awards such as investment landing bonuses to eligible enterprises. It promotes fairness with a "policy without application, benefits automatically granted" mechanism, backed by comprehensive supervision of the business environment. For key enterprises and projects, dedicated service commissioners provide "full-process, tracking, and concierge-style" services. To ease investor concerns, provincial leaders personally oversee major investment projects, fostering a pro-business, friendly, secure, and supportive environment.
As the Guest Province of Honor at the 5th WCIFIT, Gansu has carried out the RMB-100-billion Highway Derivative Economy Cluster Action Plan. Relying on new regional development patterns such as the Dunhuang Cultural Tourism Economic Circle, the Yellow River Ecological Economic Belt, the Hexi Corridor Economic Belt, and the Southeastern Gansu Growth Belt, Gansu has focused on complementary industries with the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, including electronic information, semiconductor materials, digital economy, biomedicine, clean energy, and logistics. More than 100 leading enterprises are participating in a 600-square-meter exhibition area featuring seven specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative sections. Under the theme of "Joining Hands in Industrial Cooperation, Building the Dream of Auspicious Gansu", Gansu is hosting an industrial chain investment promotion conference to highlight industrial cooperation and chain-leader-driven cluster development. With its optimal business environment, Gansu warmly welcomes entrepreneurs from home and abroad to invest in the province.
Today, Gansu has become an important gateway for China's westward opening and a strategic base for subregional cooperation. It is a key national ecological security barrier, a base for new energy, non-ferrous metallurgy, new materials, and a production and processing hub for specialty agricultural products. At this new historical stage, the in-depth implementation of major national strategies - including the Belt and Road Initiative, the Western Development, and ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin - has drawn a broad blueprint for Gansu's future. Standing at this new starting point, Gansu is marching toward a new journey of high-quality development.
Colorful and beautiful Gansu - warmly welcomes you!
